NVL preview (18th and 18th October) - More teams get their league seasons underway

A number of clubs who have waited patiently to get their NVL campaigns underway will finally get the opportunity to do so this weekend as the league moves into its third round of matches.

Among them will be the only two sides yet to start in Division 1 North, Stockport, who host Cambridge ARU, and newly-promoted Manchester Marvels Mayhem, who entertain Northampton.

The same is true in Division 1 South where Richmond and Wessex are the last two sides to get up and running – by playing each other on Sunday.

Just over 24 hours earlier, a West Country derby will pitch Bristol against Bedminster, who met in last season’s National Shield final (pictured) and who both came up from Division 2 West at the end of last season.

The two matches in Division 2 West happen on Sunday, as Coventry and Warwick Riga go to Southampton before Tamworth meet Black Country in a West Midlands derby.

In Division 2 East, Cambridge welcome Dartford Chargers on Saturday, with both teams looking to stay unbeaten after bright starts.

Richmond 2 then get their season up and running by taking on Worthing at the Kingston College Arena on Sunday.

The winners of the only game in Division 2 North, Everton Narwhals against Manchester Moss Side Jaguars, will have the chance to take an early lead at the top of the table after both won their opening games.

Division 3 North sees one triangular fixture between Hull Thunder, Chester Amazons and Newcastle Staffs 2, who will all be getting their first taste of league action.

Leicester Athena Nova and Rhinos Cambridge could both go top of Division 3 Central if they win both games of a triangular which also features Nottingham Rockets.

Coventry and Warwick Riga, Loughborough Students 2 and Cheltenham and Gloucester also face off.

All six teams who have yet to get underway in Division 3 South East will play this weekend, with newcomers Sussex Dolphins 2 among them taking on Richmond 3 and Tendring.

Elsewhere, Spelthorne Sharks, Dartford Warriors and Invicta do battle at St James’ School.

Another West Country derby will see City of Bristol and Bristol 2 kick off their campaigns, with Southampton 2 providing the other triangular opposition.

Men’s NVL

Manchester Marvels will bid to make it three wins from three and stay top of the early Division 1 North table as they host Rhinos Cambridge.

Stockport, meanwhile, will seek to register their first win against a Newcastle Staffs team bidding to stay unbeaten.

Cambridge have a South West double header over the weekend in Division 1 South, first visiting Bristol on Saturday then travelling a little further down the country to Devon to play Exeter Storm on Sunday.

Both Richmond Bucks and Kent Invicta will look to build on first game wins as the only game in Division 2 South.

Cambridge 2 will be hoping to bounce back from defeats in their opening two Division 2 Central games when Leicester come calling on Saturday, while there are no matches in Division 2 North.

There are also no matches in any of the regional Division 3 sections.
